Academy Pictures is an academic production company creating university-led films and content, with the aim of spotlighting critical research, incredible courses, powerful stories and more.

At Academy Pictures, we work with universities to create engaging documentaries, podcasts, online series' and student recruitment films. Predicated by filmmaking and academia, Academy Pictures strives to bring academic research into the spotlight.

Led by historical filmmaker and UCL alumn Dr. Justin Hardy, Academy Pictures thrives in delivering engaging stories founded in academic brilliance. Our goal at Academy Pictures is to unite academic and filmmaking expertise, in an effort to disseminate crucial ideas, stories and research to the masses.

Our relationship with the pioneers of Open Access publishing

Academy Pictures has been on commission with UCL Press for almost three years. In this time, we have delivered three different series across a variety of different mediums: non-fiction documentaries, audio-visual podcast interviews, and then a series of audio-only podcasts.

The first three series created in partnership with UCL was titled ‘The Greatest Good’. It emerged from the affiliation to key UCL figure, Jeremy Bentham.

Series one saw Academy Pictures create short-documentary films for UCL, one of which being ‘Bentham’s Defence of Sexual Liberty’. Series two and three continued under ‘The Greatest Good’ theme, however utilised the medium of podcasts to assess the topics of neurodiversity and climate justice.

As well as our series' with UCL Press, Academy Pictures has also created a plethora of course films, from Arts and Humanities to Ma Public History, alongside our Slade film, Don't Kill the Art School and others.

Across all series’, and with a new series in development, Academy Pictures, in partnership with UCL, aims and succeeds in employing academic themes and research as a genesis to deliver new ideas and gripping stories.

Beyond UCL, Academy Pictures is preparing to launch into both the national and global university space, utilising our skills to spotlight research and academia across the world.

We are aiming to expand our client base by partnering with other universities and academic institutions to create new stories fused with academia.

Spearheaded by BAFTA and EMMY-nominated director, Dr Justin Hardy, and produced by recent English and Film graduate James Gordon, Academy Pictures strives in unifying academic rigour and research with a passion for filmmaking and engaging storytelling.
